Volans
Volans is part think-tank, part consultancy, part broker and part incubator.
Based in London and Singapore, Volans works globally with entrepreneurs, businesses, investors and governments to develop and scale innovative solutions to financial, social and environmental challenges.
Our Pathways to Scale program aims to identify, map and remove barriers that slow the scaling of innovative solutions to governance, economic, social and environmental challenges.
Origins
Volans was founded in 2008 with the aim of helping social innovators, entrepreneurs and investors to do more, better, faster — bridging their work into the mainstream worlds of business and finance. Our work has evolved over the years from helping scale innovation to driving companies to engage with the need for reframe the current global economy: we call this ‘Breakthrough Capitalism’, or just ‘Breakthrough‘.
Volans co-founders are:
John Elkington (co-founder, former Chairman and now Non-Executive Director of SustainAbility)
Pamela Hartigan (former Managing Director at the World Economic Forum and now Executive Director of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the Said Business School, University of Oxford) and
Geoff Lye (former Executive Chairman of SustainAbility).
Our early relationships with partners and clients have critically informed our evolution; these include the Skoll Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Allianz and HP, Atkins, Bayer, F&C, Nestlé and Recyclebank. You can learn more about our current partners and clients here.
What does ‘Volans’ mean?
We took our name from the flying fish, specifically from its scientific name Pisces volans. The v-word refers to the ability to fly, to jump to new levels, to follow unexpected trajectories.
